Chandrapur: Minister of Environment and Tourism Aaditya Thackeray on Wednesday issued instructions to drain the historic Ramala lake and immediately do cleaning and deepening work.
Thackeray held a meeting with senior environmental officials and tourism departments in the city on proposals for pollution de-pollution and development of the 550-year-old lake.
Of the six lakes in the city, five have really disappeared due to encroachment.
Ramala lake is also dying of death which is slow due to mud encroachment, pollution and accumulation.
The Bandu Dhotre environment environment has strikes a 12-day hunger to suppress requests for de-pollution, deepen and cleanse the historic lake.
Agitation was recalled after the guarantee of Thackeray.
At the meeting, District collector Ajay Gulhane told Thackeray about the allocation of grants from the district mining development funds.
Thackeray also took out directions to immediately delete the proposal to prepare a waste treatment plant (STP) on the lake.
The Minister also guided to build protection walls on the side of Jal Nagar from the lake to examine encroachment.
He also took the supply of development proposed to attract tourists and booked starting to work for a walk above the lake to Ramala Garden.
Dhotre, who was also present at the meeting, claimed that conservation work could provide an example for the lakes contaminated and violated in other cities in the state.
The meeting was attended by the main secretary, Department of Environment, Manha Mahiskar, Main Secretary, Urban Development Department, Mahesh Pathak, Divisional Manager, MTDC, Milind Borikar, member secretary, MPCB, Joint Director, MPCB, VM Maghar.
Commissioner of Kota Rajesh Mohite and Gulhane joined the meeting through video conferencing.
