Mumbai: Six workers were injured in the explosion, followed by fire, at a chemical plant in the Chemical Zone of Tarapur Board MIDC on Saturday night.
Thirty other workers managed to escape.
The explosion occurred in the Bharat Chemicals air handling unit at around 11:30 a.m.
Board officers of the MIDC Fire Brigade Board, Dinesh Amboore, said that 36 workers were at the factory when the explosion occurred.
Because of the explosion, the ceiling of the unit collapsed and injured six workers.
Five of them suffered a head injury and were treated at Sanjeevani Hospital in Boisar.
A worker is discarded after a first aid.
The fire tender is pressed into the service.
The cause of the explosion has not been confirmed, said firefighters.
The company makes paracetamol and other chemicals.
Unintentional cases have been recorded at Boisar MIDC Police Station.
Officials of the Directorate of Safety and Health Industry will visit the factory and submit a report to the police.
Last month, five workers suffered burns in a series of explosions at the Cracker factory in Dahanu.
