Maharashtra: Coal deficiency forces Chandrapur power plants to turn off 2 units

Chandrapur: Coal deficiency continues to inhibit power plants in the Super Thermal Power Station (CSTP) chandrapur, the largest factory in the state.
The Mega factory has turned off two generation units (units No.
3 & 4) due to lack of coal supply from West West West Mining Ltd.
(WCL).
The capacity of power plants at the factory is 2,920 mega watt (MW) which fell to 1,767 MW on Saturday night.
Chief Engineer of CSTP, Pankaj Sapate ratifies a deficiency of coal in the Mega power plant.
He said plants need around 45,000 metric tons of coal per day for power plants.
However, the supply of the WCL coal mine has declined since the last few days.
“With coal stocks that are exhausted in the factory, management has turned off the NOS unit.
3 and 4 have a generation capacity of 210 MW each,” he said.
“CSTP holds all the coal needed from the WCL mine.
The supply of the Padmapur coal mine has stopped since a few days.
We have written to WCL officials about lack of supply and they take steps to ensure the supply of the right quantity to the factory,” Sapate said.
He claimed that there were only 60,000 mt of coal left with plants, which could barely meet the needs only during a day.
“Immediately, because the right supply is restored, the closed units will be turned on again and produce will continue the full capacity,” Sapate said.
Meanwhile, Mahagenco said CSTPS 210 MW 2 Units (Unit 3 & 4) closed a few days ago, but no other unit was closed.
Mahagenco received around 1.10 to 1.2 lakh tons of coal per day and consumed the same for power plants.
“Mahagenco tries our best to get the maximum number of coal rules.
The situation will likely improve on a few days,” the official said.
