Ulhasnagar: The Congress Party has demanded Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) to abolish 73.5 percent of taxes charged to rented properties, saying it is a ‘Talibani tax’ and the highest in Maharashtra.
Congress’ Ulhasnagar District President Rohit Salve with his supporters has been sitting on a hungry strike that is not limited outside the UMC headquarters.
Salve said, “Because Talibani tax (high tax) charged to rental properties, many multinational companies have closed their stores in the city and many will close”.
Salve said, “We want the UMC to begin to impose taxes according to the value of capital such as charging other civilians so that the business will survive in the city or no one will buy extra property in the city to avoid giving it based on rent due to high.
Taxes”.
Rani Agrawal, Secretary General of the State of the Congress Party participating in the protest said, “UMC imposes a tax of 73.5 percent on the property provided by rental by property holders, which is the highest and unfair”.
Protesters said that Congress protests would go for unlimited periods until UMC did not eliminate this tax and began imposing taxes on the nature of rental based on capital values such as other civil bodies that charge throughout Maharashtra.
Previously, the Canporator of all parties had demanded to eradicate this tax and the resolution also passed for the same thing in the UMC general body meeting in 2016.
When asked Yuvraj Bharean, the UMC Public Relations official said, “It was true that UMC was charging 73.5% tax on Rental property but we are waiting for the GIS property survey in the city and after the UMC completion will apply a resolution that is forwarded at a general body meeting regarding tax refueling on the basis of capital “.
