Maharashtra Flood: ‘Middle War Room’ Formed

New Delhi: ‘Middle War Room’ has been established in the Military Department in the Ministry of Defense for close coordination among the three armed forces for flood assistance operations in Maharashtra, the Indian army said on Sunday.
With unprecedented rain and the results generated from various rivers, a number of regions in Ratnagiri, Kolhapur, Sangli and several other districts from the country have been flooded.
“The middle war room has been established in the Department of Military Affairs for close coordination between three services for the ongoing flood assistance operations in Maharashtra,” said the Indian army on Twitter on Sunday.
The number of deaths from floods, landslides and other rain incidents in several parts of Maharashtra reached 113 on Sunday with one more victim who was reported in the last 24 hours, while 100 people were missing after the Monsun Anger.
At the request of civil administration, the South Command of the Indian army has mobilized the flood relief and rescue team to help locals in the flood-affected areas.
As on Saturday, a total of 15 flood relief teams from the Aundh Military Station and the Bombay Engineering Group, Pune was issued for flooding and rescue operations in Sangli, Palus, Burli and Chiplun, said an official statement.
“The columns are involved in rescuing villagers stranded in submerged areas and restoring normally in flooded areas.
More than 100 people have been saved from the affected area and transferred to a safe location,” said Saturday.
Indian soldiers also provide cooked food and drink water to the villagers.
Medical camps have been established where, the army doctors and nursing assistants have been deployed to provide the first assistance and drugs needed to be evacuated by the local population, the statement added.
