Nagpur: The Ministry of Environment and the Maharashtra government’s climate on Thursday issued a methodology to determine the age of the tree, so that they can be given inheritance status.
In the absence of any methodology at the local level, there is confusion between the authorities and many ancient trees cut down.
On July 6, the state government changed preservation & protection of Maharashtra trees (urban areas), in 1975, giving the status of ‘inheritance’ to the trees aged 50 years, in addition to asking for more than 200 tree logging will require circumstances.

On Thursday, the Ministry of State Environment led by Aaditya Thackeray told the criteria and methods to determine the age of heritage trees.
According to the method I, the age of the tree can be determined based on a written record that shows the year of the plantation.
If such notes are not available, the age of the tree can be determined by the help of witness testimony recorded.
As per the method II, age can be determined by multiplying the diameter of the tree with specific species growth factors.
To get to the diameter, the tree circumference will be measured in an inch using a ribbon of about four and a half legs on the ground.
The circumference must be divided 3.14 to find a tree diameter.
Estimate the age of the tree by multiplying diameter with growth factors.
Method III includes the use of increase boring instruments.
This method is new, it is necessary to be executed based on local forest officials guidelines until time expertise is developed by local tree authorities.
