Mumbai: The State Government on Friday ordered a review of 1,324 black spots (accident-prone sites) for 2022, where 628 had been identified by the Ministry of Road Transportation and Highway, 381 by PWD Negara and 315 by local bodies throughout the city Maharashtra.
Commissioner of the Anil Paratab State Transportation, when handling the 11th meeting of the state road safety board at Sahyadri Guest House this week, directed government officials to ensure that “saving lives must be a major concern when planning the safety steps for new roads for this year”.
“Because of the crash, some innocent people were killed and it was a financial and mental trauma for their family for life.
So, it is very important that we focus on saving lives and reducing death on the road,” Parab said at the meeting, by adding that officials Must look for cooperation from local NGOs in curbing accidents on the highway.
Of the 1,324 black spots where the maximum accident was reported, the state government had completed the safety measures of permanent roads in 931 locations, while the temporary steps had been completed in 359 locations.
“All black spots will now be reviewed to ensure that accidents do not repeat,” said Joint Transportation Commissioner (Jalan Safety) J B Patil.
Parab said road signs on traffic rules, especially the speed limit in various locations, must be striking.
He said there must be a trauma center and health care facilities close to the highway so that victims can be rushed during the gold hours and life can be saved.
“Vehicles like tractors must have a radium sticker on the back side so they are seen by vehicles that drove and no collisions,” he said.
The Secretary of the Additional Chief (Transportation) Ashish Kumar Singh, who was present at the road safety council meeting, said that even though there was a decrease in the number of accidents throughout the country compared to a year ago, there is still a need to reduce death and injury on Jalan Crash.
A decision was taken at a meeting to start a web portal for routine updates on the crash on the road – with details such as the type of accident, location, time and destination – and this would be accessible internally to officials from the department who played the main role of road security.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the PWD, the Ministry of Health and Transportation, MSRTC, and a non-profit organization such as the Savelife Foundation.
