Mumbai: While 11.4 people lakh throughout Maharashtra fell with Covid-19 in May, cases had dropped two-thirds to 3 lakh in June (so far).
The second wave of Covid-19 clearly receded from its peak in April, when 17.9 cases of lakh and 14,164 deaths were recorded in Maharashtra.
There are concerns that in the bag of kolhapur and sangli or even in a stretch of Mumbai Andheri-Borivli, “rebound” or a small blip can take place.
Although there was no doubt that the second wave was bigger and worse than the first last year, there was a question mark on the burden of daily deaths.
Maharashtra has conducted a reconciliation of death data since May 17.

Regardless of this massive decline from April to June, experts said the main causes of concern were “thick tails” from the decline in Mumbai and Maharashtra , While cases in the state and other cities have dropped to a small portion of their peak in the second wave, both Mumbai and Maharashtra continue to record high daily incidents compared to, say, Delhi or Karnataka.
On Tuesday, for example, Maharashtra recorded 8,085 cases and 231 deaths, while Mumbai registered 556 cases and 12 deaths.

The total Caseload state has touched 60.5 lakh and the city is 7.2 lakh.
Total death rose to 1,21,804 in the state and 15,426 in the city.

Shashank Joshi, a member of the state government assignment unit in Covid-19, said people must remember that the second wave was not over.
“We still detect thousands of cases every day.
Yes, the second wave is downhill, but we have to guard against rebound or inverse lumps, as happens in several districts such as Kolhapur,” he said.
He said the blip like it was responsible for the “thick tail” in the Covid Maharashtra graph.
“Even in Mumbai, the outskirts of attention has developed, especially in the belt of Andheri-Borivli where there is a poor compliance with behavior that matches Covid,” he added.
Health Minister Rajesh Tope said even though cases were in a decline, it should not prevent people from being vaccinated.
“Vaccination must be carried out on priority.
So far there are only 21 Delta-Plus cases reported in the state, so it is not the cause of worries immediately,” Tope said.
He said if the state could vaccinate 70% of the targeted population, the third wave severity could be reduced.
