Maharashtra Rain: Death Toll Rise to 213

Mumbai: The death toll in the relevant incident last week at Maharashtra rose to 213 on Wednesday with Raigad regency who was hit by the worst because almost 100 fatalities, said the state government.
Eight people are still missing, the official release said.
Heavy rains triggered a massive flood and landslides in many parts of Maharashtra, especially in the coastal and Western District Conk, since July 20.
Of the 213 deaths, the maximum 95 was reported in the Raigad district, followed by 46 in Satnagiri, 35 in Ratnagiri, 15 in Thane, seven in Kolhapur, four in Mumbai, three in Pune, four in Sindhudurg, and two of each in Wardha Regency and Akola Maharashtra Timur, said the statement issued by the Disaster Management Department.
Eight people were still lost while 52 injured people were treated in various governments and private hospitals, he said.
Most of the deaths in Raigad District, Satara and Ratnagiri were caused by landslides, while flooding claimed many lives in Kolhapur and Sangli.
Since June 1, as many as 300 people were killed in the incident related to rain in Maharashtra, the statement said.
A total of 61,280 domestic animals were also killed in floods, most of them in Sangli District, Kolhapur, Satara and Sindhudurg.
Heavy rain within the reach of Sahyadri caused the swelling of rivers flowing through the Satara District, Sangli and Kolhapur, forcing the evacuation of people.
As many as 4,35,879 people shifted to safer places, including 2,11,808 in Sungli Regency, the statement said.
Sangli Regency in Maharashtra Barat did not receive heavy rainfall, but the disposal of water from the Koyna Dam resulted in the city of Sangli and several villages would be flooded.
There were 349 relief camps arranged for people evacuated – 216 in Kolhapur, 74 in Sangli, 29 in Satara, 16 in Ratnagiri and 14 in Raigad, said the statement.
