Aurangabad: The number of students in the pre-primary class from the Civic-Run schools in the city of Aurangabad Maharashtra has fallen, mainly due to Covid-19 pandemic, officials said.
Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) runs 72 schools (Media Marathi and Urdu) in the city, Civic Education officer Ramnath Thore told PTI on Monday.
Happy! You have managed to throw your votelogin to see results “in 2018-19, the number of students in the pre-primary class (for children’s kindergarten education in the age group 3 to 6 years) from these schools is 3,500, which drops to 2,953 on 2019-20 and fall further to 2,375 at 2020-21, “he said.
He also said the number of students in grade 1 to 8 was 12,393 in 2018-19, and dropped to 10,838 at 2020-21.
However, for the 2021-22 academic session, the number has now reached 11,829.
The official also informed that the strength of Clases 9 and 10 reached 1,903 in 2020-21, compared with 1,777 in 2018-19 and 1,300 in 2019-20.
Asked about the fall of the number of students in the pre-primary class, Commissioner AMC Astik Kumar Pandey said the Covid-19 pandemic had disrupted the situation.
“Reception to the pre-primary class is optional and parents do not want to take risks.
Second, migration is also a major problem because people might think that turning to rural areas can be a safer choice for them during a pandemic,” he said.
Pandey also said they had a plan to encourage people to register their children in the pre-primary class, but it would be implemented after a normal situation.
Private schools also face the same situation, said Nayana Awhad, the principal of a private educational institution here.
“Parents feel their children’s education will not be affected if they do not join school for a year.
Some of them have resigned because of financial problems, while some cannot arrange online classes for their children,” he said.
However, Thore said they hope more students will be registered in the pre-primary class in the new academic session.
“Our teacher reaches parents because of registration of their children,” he added.
