Maharashtra to write to seconds to delay local agency polls

Mumbai: Stung by SC Decision Convert a 27% quota seat for other Reverse Classes (OBC) into the general category for future local agency polls, the State Cabinet on Wednesday decided to write to the State Election Commission to postpone the election.
This, to allow empirical data to be collected to restore the OBC quota.
The cabinet also agreed to appoint an IAS officer as people to ensure data collection on the OBC representation occurred.
And to approve the funds needed for training in the upcoming state assembly session.
However, the State Election Commission said it would not be possible to postpone local bodies scheduled for December 21 since the Supreme Court has confirmed that date.
“The state must approach SC for every change,” said a Sec official.
The SEC also shows that because the OBC quota seats have been converted to the general category, the election for this chair cannot be held with the rest of the local body selection on December 21.
“We have to call another nomination from the general category candidate.
The whole process can take a month,” said an official.
The SEC has declared elections for 106 Panchayats Nagar, Parish Zilla Bhandara and Gondia, and 15 Panchayat Samisis on that date.
An important quota problem because of the Maratha and OBC communities, more, jostling for political domination.
Political parties do not want to risk alienating both groups.
The verdict enhances the games between the Government MVA and BJP opposition mainly because SC has rejected the country’s search data collected through the 2011 Socio-Economic Caste Census (SCC) 2011.
SC requested empirical data on contemporary political representations of contemporary OBC in the local body to be collected by the Commission special.
“Now they say the OBC data is not there and there is an error in SCC.
If it doesn’t exist, then why did the former Minister of Main Devendra Fadnivis wrote many letters to the center requesting the data of OBC from SCC?” Asked Minister of Food and Civil Equipment Chhagan Bhujbal from NCP .
He said the SC verdict would have an impact on the OBC quota in political representatives in other countries as well.
“This will have a national impact and OBC will increase to it,” said Bhujbal.
“Obviously for the OBS that BJP is an anti-reservation,” said Minister Pwd Ashok Chavan.
BJP Opposition said the OBC quota was lost solely due to MVA’s negligence.
“The Supreme Court first requested empirical data about the backwardness of the OBC election in 2019.
What did the state government do for the past two years?” Asked the BJP leader Devendra Fadnivis.
He said the country had to collect data in the next three months and try to postpone the poll until the OBC quota was restored.
“BJP is clear that polls should not be held without the OBC quota,” Fadnivis said.
The leader of BJP Chandrashekhar Bawansule, which is included in the OBC community also said the state has not provided the state backward commission with funds to collect data.
Head of State Congress Nana Patole urged the Head of the Minister of UDDHAV Thackeray to provide all facilities to the commission so that data collection can begin as early as possible and OBC ordered.
