Thane: Two men suspected of being involved in betting on the ongoing Premier League Cricket match were arrested by Crime Branch Unit-5 from Thane police, officials said on Sundays.
Senior Inspector at Vikas Ghodke Crime Branch Unit-5 said they were informed about the racket operated by two hotels from the hotel room in Majiwada after the attack was in the room.
Duo has been captured under the relevant parts of the prevention of Maharashtra from the gambling law, it acts, the Indian Telegraph and IPC laws, officials said.
“We found two men, identified as Kr Jaiswar and Hospital Pandey, both Mulund residents, who were involved in placing and coordinating illegal bets in the ongoing cricket match.
We recover diary and cellphones with their client code names and special software installed , we suspect used for bets, “he said.
While the police suspected they were small dealers with a network of around 20 clients, one of the defendants arrested tends to be associated with a larger racket.
“We have got their custody after we can get more instructions from,” Ghodke said.
Meanwhile, in a separate raid, the unit-1 crime branch ordered three men to run roadside betting racquets and in other cases ordered two men to operate the online lottery scheme illegally.
