Mumbai: Rain in the city for the past few days has caused delays in open places – sports equipment and watch towers – which have been installed on the maham coast.
Environmentally friendly gym equipment that has been brought to the beach, also called RetiBunder Mahim, still has to be collected, officials said, adding that work must be completed next week after the inauguration will be held.
Assistant Commissioner of the City of BMC Gr North Ward, Kiran Dighavkar, said that sports equipment had been chosen in a way needed a little maintenance.
“Everything is almost ready.
After sports equipment is placed, we can open the beach to the public.
It’s delayed because of the shower continuously for the past few days,” he said.
One of the highlight of this project is a watch tower that gives visitors to air views from the Sea Bandra-Worli link.
Locals say facilities must be such that people are encouraged to visit coast regularly which will also help maintain encroachment in the bay.
A resident who visited the place said that BMC is currently taking over a small area for reshuffle, but adding that it is a good start.
Mahim Resident Irfan Macchiwala said, “Mahim Retibuner is a large area that was previously interrupted.
Although a small portion near the mahim fortress has been cleaned and changed, this is a good start because BMC has worked on the project to connect the Bandra and Mahim fortress.”
