New Delhi: The Ministry of Defense on Friday signed the RS 1,350 Crore contract with Mahindra Defense Systems Limited (MDS) to produce 14 integrated anti-submarine defense suites (IADS) for front rate warships.
“The IAD comes with an integrated ability to detect enemy submarines and torpedoes in the expanded range and divert the incoming torpedoes fired by enemy submarines.
This will increase the ability of the anti-navy submarine warfare,” said an official.
With a variety of complex sensors, IADs supervise and provide input for processing and signal analysis to allow the necessary actions to underwater threats.
Officials say contracts with Indian companies under the category of defense procurement ‘buy and make (India)’ are an important encouragement for the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ mission of India and provide the main Fillip for the customary defense industry in development and production.
MDS is selected for contracts through open tenders that see comprehensive testing.
“This is the first major contract with the private sector which is intended for underwater detection and protection from threats,” said Chairman of the MDS S Shukla.
