SILCHAR: Assam shore and woods minister Parimal Suklabaidya on Saturday examined the status of woods schemes in each of the three areas of the Barak Valley here.
Chairing an overview meeting in the Cachar deputy commissioner’s office with MLAs as well as other mature forest officials, also Suklabaidya said stringent vigil has to be held on forest territory to rule out some encroachment.
“A strict vigil needs to be preserved so there is not any encroachment on forest soil,” he added.
The ministry took inventory of encroachment from neighbouring Mizoram in certain bordering regions of Hailakandi and Karimganj districts.
Eviction of squatters in the forest territory also figured at the assembly.
He taught the district government and forest officials to maintain a close watch at each village place in order that”no individual comes from out and if anybody has been settled, this individual must follow forest regulations and rules”.
Suklabaidya also underscored the demand for plantation driveway on premise, especially during the rainy period in each of the three districts of this valley.
He asked the officers to take instant rigorous actions against individuals involved in illegal felling of trees and also people running prohibited band saw mills.
“Book the inmates under applicable provisions of legislation,” he explained.
The ministry called for a unified and pragmatic strategy with most of the divisional forest officers (DFOs) and woods range officers in affiliation with the administrations of both Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi districts to place a halt to all prohibited actions, preventing forest soil from squatters and attracting a growing number of regions under lands.
