Jaipur: Vishal Singh, grandson of major Dhyan Chand, nice to see the Indian Hockey team get a bronze medal.
He believes every performance oriented sport and only increased performance is the key to getting attention, infrastructure and other facilities.
Vishal thanked the center to change the name of Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award with his grandfather’s name, but said that the Hockey Wizard was worthy of Bharat Ratna.
Toi spoke to Vishal, a sports officer based in Baran and a hockey coach, to find out how medals and performances would improve sports facilities in India.
“I believe everything in sports is performance oriented.
In the last 41 years, we did not get a medal in hockey.
Thus, ironically our national game does not get much attention.
I believe the performance of Indian men and women in hockey is very phenomenal and this will certainly improve Games in India, “said Singh.
Vishal is the son of Dhyan Chand’s oldest son, Brij Mohan Singh.
Vishal’s father migrated to the city when he got a job as a sportsman.
“Since it’s our family based in the city and baran,” he added.
“I also want to add that we tend to forget the achievement of sportsmen in some time.
Thus, I will urge the Indian government and other countries, including Rajasthan to focus, plan and implement facilities and infrastructure in other sports too.” He said that Sportsmen are guaranteed to change the name of Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award since 2012.
“The moment of PM Narendra Modi announced it, we have many people who come to our house and congratulate us.
I think I am blessed to be part of a family that has a big Dhyan chand,” Add it.
Vishal believes that his grandfather deserves Bharat Ratna.
“He was a person who denied work in the German army and their citizenship was offered to him after his appearance in the Olympic Berlin in 1936.
He was a true patriot.”
