JORHAT: Around 50 households were displaced following an embankment was busted in Tezpur on Saturday after a large erosion because the water level of Jia-Bhoroli lake from northern Assam’s Sonitpur district maintained climbing. Senior government officials hurried to the place and took inventory of the circumstance. The tributary of this Brahmaputa violated its embankment in Koriani Nepali Gaon at Tezpur on Saturday morning. The erosion in the site had lasted for the last week and eventually breached the lake dyke. A huge part of nearby metropolitan areas has also been severely damaged. Displaced families have taken refuge in neighboring places. Deputy commissioner, Sonitpur, Bhupesh Chandra Das, seen the erosion-hit regions at Koriani Nepali Gaon on Saturday and requested the water resources division officials to take all needed measures to protect the embankment from erosion. A water source department recorded in Tezpur told TOI that necessary steps are taken up in most vulnerable areas close to the embankment.
