DAS has conducted the same tour to educational institutions a few months ago to find out whether the building and campus can be accessed or not.
He has observed that new buildings on campus can be accessed by PWD which have slopings and other facilities unlike old buildings.
He also wrote a letter to the Ministry of Higher Education Arun Kumar Sahoo about complaints of students who had defects about the lack of infrastructure and the problems faced.
Even in Bhubaneswar, several buildings in government and universities do not have slopings, lifts, and other facilities for easy access from PWD.
University Grant Commission, Union of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Justice and Social Empowerment has also requested all college campuses and universities to have this accessibility for PWD.
The free environment in universities or university buildings requires the provision of ramps, rails, lifts, toilet adaptations for wheelchair users, signals and hearing signals and tactile floors for disabled people (PWD), as expected in the PWD Act.
