Coimbatore: A 27-year-old man was arrested in the Tirupur district in early morning to smuggle 341kg of marijuana from Andhra Pradesh.
Police said M Palpandi, a native of Thaki Regency, was arrested during the vehicle check on Jalan Angeripallayam around 5.30 in the morning.
“He was waiting in his utility sports vehicle (SUV) parked on the road.
Seeing us, he tried to escape.
However, we managed to arrest him,” Police with police station Anupparpalayam told TII.
During the vehicle check, the police found 155 bags containing marijuana.
“Every bag weighs 2.2kg.
We have confiscated marijuana and SUV.
The contraband confiscated by Rs 40 Lakh,” the police said.
Palpandi was produced in front of the court, which turned it on in Helping Harriors.
V Vanitha, Police Commissioner of Tirupur City, said they had intensified the vehicle check in the early hours.
“This has helped us catch Peddler marijuana.”
