Mall owners tend to offer help to retail stores, food outlets, multiplexes in the middle of a pandemic: SCAI

New Delhi: The Association of Indian Body Shopping Center (SCAI) on Sundays said the owner of the mall would support their tenants as they did in the last two waves and tended to offer help to retail stores, food and multiplex outlets in the middle of the covid pandemic fresh wave.
The Association of Indian shopping centers (SCAI) is an industrial body, which represents the owner of a shopping and central center.
SCAI Director Abhishek Bansal said some retailers had begun to approach property owners, raising their concerns over the impact on their business after restrictions were imposed by local authorities after a sudden surge of pandemic cases.
“This is the third time being happening, and the developers and shopping centers have been established with their tenants and retailers in the last two waves.
They will come back to their partners in this third wave too, so that everyone plugs in this situation,” said Bansal PTI .
Large retail stores, restaurants, pubs, cafes, multiplex operating in malls and shopping centers approaching property owners, looking for neglect and concessions on rent for January.
However, Bansal, who is also Executive Director, Pacific Malls, said the owner would take the time to decide.
The final decision in this case will be taken after the end of this month after assessing the impact, because restrictions imposed by the state government changed every week, he added.
Previously, restrictions were only at the time and weekend operation, but now they are completely closed in dining.
Some cities, including Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, face strict restrictions imposed by each state government in step to curb the rapid spread of omicron variants.
For example in Delhi, multiplexes are closed, inside eating in restaurants are prohibited and only takeaways are permitted.
Rajneesh Mahajan, Inorbit Mall CEO, also confirmed that several restaurants have shared their concerns and said reasonable discussions will be taken to find a solution.
“If they have a problem, we will be happy to talk to them and when they need support,” Mahajan said, who is also the Director of SCAI.
While talking about the two previous waves, he said in many cases they had released a large component of rent for locking and when surgery was restored, rent increased gradually.
“We are also worried about developments,” he said.
The Indian Retailers Association (RAI) said it was a stressful situation and central owner and shopping center and retailers had to sit together to install on it.
“The third wave Covid once again brought business into a stressful situation.
Various parts of the country have various norms to overcome them.
This means that retailers and malls will talk to each other and try to come out with new requirements to install on this new wave,” said Rai Kumar Rajagopalan CEO.
Last week, the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) has written to the owner of the Food & Beverage Business Property, requesting a complete rental and cam (maintenance area) fee because the business is really close for dinner.
In an open letter, Nray has appealed without minimum rent for three months and chooses pure income share for the period when limited operations are charged.
Rahul Singh, Founder and CEO of Beer Cafe said there was currently no business because all the bars and restaurants in Delhi were closed.
“We have passed two waves, and they (the owner) have been very supportive and expect it to be the same again,” he said.
Even in the recovery phase during the first and second waves too, we haven’t paid any rental for a closed period, and when we reopen, the owner supports us with a pure income division model, he added.
“In the last quarter, when we moved to the Pre-Covid number, everything was back,” Rahul said.
More multiplex operators were devastated by restrictions because some state governments asked them to close the cinema, and they also planned to approach the owner of the mall / property.
However, the Multiplex of India (MAI) Association of President Kamal Gianchandani has refused to comment on this problem.
