Chennai: fresh Covid-19 cases fell to 765 in the state on Saturday compared to 772 on Friday when 10 districts reported increased cases.
A dozen deaths took the dead to 36,361.
The day after the Public Health Directorate directed the district authority to insist vaccination for people to enter public spaces, several city malls and theater began to insist on double vaccination at the entrance.
Those who have a vaccination certificate are asked to download it from the internet or go.
From Monday, factory managers, corporate offices and other workplaces were asked to verify staff certificates that began working, officials said.
Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan said almost 75% of adults had taken the first dose while almost 38% finished the second.
“But more than 1 crore at the age of 18-44 the age group and nearly 50 lakh people over 45 years – most senior citizens – have not taken their first dose,” he said.
“At least 72 lakh which matured for the second dose hasn’t taken it yet.” With 125 new cases, Coimbatore topped the country followed by Chennai (118).
Coimbatore reported the sharpest increase in cases from 119 on Friday, while Chennai reported a decline to 118 out of 120 on Friday.
Twenty-eight districts report cases in one digit, while 31 report zero deaths.
Of the 12 deaths, Chennai and Chengalpet each have 3, Salem 2 and Tirupur, Trichy, Nagapattinam and Madurai have 1.
The country will hold the 10th mega vaccination drive on Sunday.
“Those who have not taken two doses of vaccines continue to pose risk not only for themselves but also to the community.
While we do everything to prevent resurrection, we want people to find out their duties to take vaccines,” said Radhakrishnan.
On Saturday, 3.4 lakh people took vaccines to take a calculation of doses in the government vaccine center to 6.2 crores.
Since May 1, 27.1 Doses of Lakh have been given in a private hospital.
