Valletta: Malta Mediterranean Island requires evidence of vaccination for visitors 13 and above, the first European Union to do it.
Starting on Wednesday, Malta visitors must present a Covid-19 vaccination certificate recognized by Malta’s health authority, which means certificates issued by Malta, the European Union or Britain.
The EU Green Passport Program ratifies people who are fully vaccinated, but also those who receive the results of negative PCR tests or have recovered from Covid-19.
But Malta has decided to only recognize those who are fully vaccinated with the hope of evoking a recent increase in the case of the confirmed Koronavirus.
“Malta will be the first UE country to take this step,” said Minister of Health, Chris Fearne.
Children aged 5-12 only need to present evidence of negative PCR tests, while those below 5 are released from all documentation requirements.
Malta, who has a population of more than half a million, has 46 active cases on July 1 and 252 active cases on Friday.
This country has reported nearly 31,000 cases and 420 deaths in pandemic.
The Malta government said 90% of the new Covid-19 case was among people who were not vaccinated.
At present, 79% of Malta adults have been fully vaccinated.
Fearne said that most of the new cases were associated with a trip.
Some positive cases were also identified at the English teaching school.
As a result, the Malta government ordered the closure of the school starting on Wednesday.
