New Delhi: In a significant step, West Bengal Assembly on Tuesday issued a resolution that supports the Ad-hoc committee report that supports the creation of the legislative council.
The move was strongly opposed by BJP.
196 of 265 members present in assembly support the creation of the council, while 69 of them opposed it.
The move assumed the significance as the main minister of Mamata Banerjee, who lost the assembly of Nandigram to the origin of Suvendu Adhikari, needed to be a member of parliament within 6 months.
Mamata tends to contest the constituency of Bhowanipore.
Sitting TMC MLA from Bhowanipore in Kolkata District Sobhandebeb Chatttopadhyay has resigned from the Assembly to open the way for the re-election of Mamata from here.
However, uncertainty over Bypolls because Covid pandemics can be a possible reason for some anxiety in Trinamool.
A similar crisis in Uttarakhand which caused a tutoring to the chairman of Minister Tirath Singh, had to burden the mind of the ruling party in Bengal.
The creation of the Board can also help beat Roy, the Mamata’s aide ever trusted, who left BJP to return to the folds of Trinamool after the assembly selection.
BJP has filed a petition to the speaker against Mullan Roy, demanding his resignation as the MLA party.
The BJP legislative party, while opposing its resolution, said TMC wanted to pursue “backdoor politics” to help party leaders elected as members of the parliament assembly.
The Safron party also argues that the move will put pressure on the state.
Resolution – ‘Consideration of the Ad Hoc Committee report to examine the recommendations for the creation of the Legislative Council’ – was transferred by the Minister of Parliament State Parta Chatterjee under the rule of 169 of the home business behavior procedure.
Lone Isf Mla Naushad Siddiqui sided with BJP in opposing the resolution.
