Kolkata: Trinamool Congress Sunday officially announced the Chairman of the Minister of Mamata Banerjee as a candidate for the selection of by-election in Bhabanipur.
The TMC campaign in the chair in South Kolkata has been going on with the election commission that announced bypoll on Saturday, following demand from the state government to avoid the constitutional crisis.
Banerjee, who lost elections in Nandigram, had to win this poll to maintain its main post.
BJP, Congress, and CPI (M) Left front have not announced their candidates for Bypoll.
Bypoll will be held on September 30 along with the general election to two seats in the Murshidabad District – Samserganj and Jangipur where polling stores cannot be held during the election of eight phase assembly earlier this year.
Vote counting will take place on 3.
October.
Jakir Hossain is a TMC candidate in the Jangipur seat, while Amirul Islam fights as a party candidate from Samserganj.
Veteran Sovandeb politician, Chatttopadhyay resigned as TMC MLA Bhabanipur, which allowed Banerjee to become a member of the state legislative assembly by fighting bypoll.
Chattopadhyay has beaten BJP actor Rudranil Ghosh around 28,000 votes from Bhabanipur.
Banerjee has won from Bhabanipur twice since 2011.
He has moved from his traditional chair to fight in Nandigram during the assembly poll earlier this year but lost to his former Suvendu Adhikari’s adjudice who opposed BJP tickets.
Adhikari is now an opposition leader in the Western Bengal Assembly.
Notification for Bhabanipur Bypoll will be issued on September 6, start the nomination process.
September 13 is the last date of archiving nomination, while supervision of papers will take place on September 14.
September 16 is the last date to withdraw from the battle of the election.
According to the Election Commission’s statement, West Bengal Secretary has urged that given the exigue of administrative and public interest and to avoid the emptiness in the state, by-elections for Bhabanipur, where cm Mamata Banerjee intends to oppose the election, may be held.
He must be a member of the state legislature on November 5.
