Kolkata: Minister of Mamata Mamata Banerjee said in Nabanna that he would not attend the first meeting on Friday from the 53 member committee founded to celebrate the 150-year anniversary of the spiritual leader and Freedom Fighter Sri Aurobindo, as a sign of protest against the center indifference shown for him during the meeting In ‘India @ 75’ was held on Wednesday.
PM Narendra Modi is heading to the committee which also includes its predecessor Manmohan Singh and H de Gowda and several ministerial heads.
Sri Aurobindo’s birthday coincides with India’s independence on August 15, 2022.
Banerjee protested the central neglect of a virtual meeting because he was not allowed to speak, regardless of the country’s sterling contribution to the freedom movement.
He highlighted the contribution of Bengal for national songs and the national anthem.
CM asked the Secretary of the Head of State H K Dwivedi to convey to the center that he would not attend the Friday meeting.
“I will not be present because we have taken our program at a 150-year anniversary of Rishi Aurobindo.
We have established a committee and has supported this program,” CM said during the meeting in ‘India @ 75’ was held in Nabanna on Thursday.
“We have started an exhibition inheritance in Sri Aurobindo in Alipore prison and it must be conveyed to them,” he added.
Artists and MP Trinamool Jogen Choudhury are critical of the central attitude towards CM.
Curning ignoring it, the poet Joy Goswami said it was not new.
Banerjee further said the center did not allocate funds to celebrate 75 years of independence.
