Man died after part of the 4-storey building collapsed in Kalbadevi

Mumbai: A 61-year-old man died on Sunday night after a portion of a building collapsed in Kalbadevi.
The deceased has been identified as Sundara Shaw.
According to officials, some of the No 5 Building in Khandraowadi in Dadi Sheth Agyari Lane in Kalbadevi, fainted on Sunday night and the entire building fell at night.
Shaw is not a resident of the building.
While all the residents of the building were evacuated before the building fell, Shaw stood under the building when it fell.
“A large tragedy was avoided because all residents were evacuated before the building fell.
BMC, firefighters and police officials ensured that the building was emptied.
The man who died was said to be an Angadia worker who was standing near the building,” said the local Congress Mla Amin Patel.
According to firefighting officials, some of the four-story buildings fell and the entire building was evacuated on Sunday night.
The incident occurred around 6pm and then at night the entire building collapsed, officials said.
Shaw’s body recovered from the debris and was taken to the JJ Hospital where he was declared dead.
BMC officials said that the building belonged to Mhada.
“Mhada has not been able to sanctions these funds and buildings have become dilapidated and can fall anytime.
All residents have been moved, most of them now live in their relatives.
We will ask them transit.
Accommodation,” Patel said.
