CHENNAI: A 50-year-old guy died after having a slab of temple dropped him Chennai on Saturday morning.
The same as the rest of the temples, the temple in Mannadi was closed because of lockdown.
The guy was standing away from the temple and praying as soon as the slab collapsed.
The deceased was identified as Thiagarajan, 58, of Velachery who had been working in a computer center.
A CCTV camera footage reveals Thiagarajan parking his bicycle with the walls of their Lord Vinayagar temple at Thambu Chetty Street.
He then moved to his workplace.
About 9 am, Thiagarajan stepped outside and walked in the direction of the temple.
He attracted camphor, stored beyond of the temple doors and hammering it.
Unexpectedly, a 20-foot-long slab of this temple collapsed and dropped him.
On being alarmed, authorities and the fire and rescue personnel arrived in the place.
They eliminated the slabs and spared the guy trapped beneath.
They hurried him into the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, where the physicians examined and verified that he had been dead on arrival.
The North Beach police registered a case.
Thiagarajan is survived by his own spouse.
