Mumbai: Khar Police on July 1 caught Eric Mathias in the alleged case of winning a store worth RS 1.3 Crore which is actually owned by Maureen Matilda Paul who is 84 years old.
The store was said to be his ancestor owned by Paul.
Mathias won the store located on the ground floor of the St Vincent de Paul Cooperative Housing Society in Khar (West) on October 31, 2020, claiming to be a new owner after breaking the door lock.
Victims learned about the incident on the same day and a registered case on November 20 after he was forced to camp outside the property.
Paul complained that the man to whom he had given the power of lawyers in a legal case four years ago, had claimed the ownership allegedly through a fraud, police said.
The community and the Catholic Association concerned registered police complaints against alleged illegal ownership.
They told the police that the public had not issued a certificate not objection (NOC) to Mathias for resale.
