New Delhi: A 22-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly robbing someone in the knifepoint here to give expensive prizes to his girlfriend on his birthday, officials said on Friday.
The defendant has been identified as Virat Singh, a resident of Dabri in Southwest Delhi, they said.
On Friday night intervention and Saturday, a robbery incident was reported at the Dabri police station, where a man alleged that when he was going home and was near the Sitapuri Bus Stand, Dabri, four men robbed his cellphone, Rs 5,500 and the identity of the card at the knife point, said a senior police officer.
He also accused one defendant stabbing him with a knife during a robbery, police said.
On Tuesday, information was received about criminals involved in the incident.
The police reached Gurjar Dairy, Dharmpura, Najafgarh and arrested Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Santosh Kumar Meena said.
During the interrogation, he revealed that he worked in a call center in Gurgaon, but he lost his job during locking.
He wanted to give a prize expensive to his girlfriend on his birthday, police said.
To meet their financial requirements, the defendant conducted a robbery, they said.
One cellphone robbed was recovered from Singh’s ownership, police said, added that the effort was made to arrest other accused people.
