Bengaluru: Positive international passenger testing for Covid-19 on arrival was mandated to be hospitalized for fear of omicron spread.
Private hospitals, where most of these patients are slightly symptomatic or have no symptoms received, have raised concerns over they occupy the ward for no less than 10 days.
“They are all vaccinated and do not have severe infections and can be easily managed at home or in Covid care centers.
Being in hospitals even though they do not have disease and wait for the genome sequencing report affecting the patient.
It also increases the cost of care from Covid Wards,” said Member Private hospitals and nurses’ associations (Phan).
Members have communicated the same as the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), looking for changes in the guidelines and allowing home isolation for positive Covid people returned foreign because they can create a lack of beds for non-covid patients in private hospitals.
This problem also caused clashes between hospital staff and patients, said private hospitals.
In accordance with BBMP data, there are nearly 180-200 covid patients in private hospitals in the city and the number continues to vary.
At various branches of Manipal Hospital, 48 Covid cases have been accepted.
Suguna Hospital has 24 patients, Apollo 15 in three branches, and the Bowring Hospital managed by the Government 17.
Dr.
R Ravindra, a member of Phana, said the government must take a position to enable Covid patients to be recognized at the hospital.
“Disease control and prevention center (CDC) in the US recently shortens the isolation period for covid patients up to five days amid the spread of omicron.
Experts must see this too,” he said.
The majority of international passengers who turned positive for Covid on arrival did not show symptoms and hospitalization of all of them were Draconian in retrospect, said Dr.
Satyanarayana Mysore, Hod, Pulmonology, Manipal Hospitals.
“All international passengers who change positive covids must be encouraged to be in house isolation and ensure that they strictly follow instructions.
While the intention behind hospitalization is to prevent the spread of omicrons, effective monitoring of cases of house isolation can be done,” he said, added Omicron surges are expected throughout the country in mid-January.
Dr.
HM Prasnana, President, Phana, said the problem was a serious problem that the government needs to be taken.
“Mandatory acceptance of the cases suspected by Omicron suppressed hospital resources.
Acceptance has increased in the past two weeks,” said Dr.
Prasanna, added that the organization would consume problems with BBMP and the state government.
However, members of the Covid Technical Experts Committee said the state must have a treating experience of 100-150 omicron cases before allowing home isolation for all positive international passengers.
“We don’t know if all Omicron cases will continue to be light.
We have to see how it comes out.
Until now, the patient must be in the hospital for 10 days after that they can be issued when they test the negative to Covid twice in a 24 hour gap, “Tac member said.
“Unless the State Government and TAC change the guidelines, the acceptance of international patients and their contact that tests positive Covid will continue,” said Dr.
