Mangaluru: The district and the first additional session at Mangalore gave a lifetime sentence to six people who were found guilty of killing a 30-year-old man and burned it.
The convicted people are Anand Naika (39), Praveen Naika (39), Vinay Kumar (34), Prakash (35), Lokesh (38) and Nagaraj (43).
In his order, Judge T P Ramalinge Gowda also directed all six to pay a fine of RS 23,000.
According to the sheets submitted by the Belthagady Police, Suresh Naika, 30 years old, a resident of the village of Malavantige Belthangady, was engaged to a girl on April 30, 2017.
On April 29, 2017, Suresh Naika went to Ujire to buy sari for the girl.
Suresh Naika received a call from Vinay Kumar who stated that he could help him get help under the government scheme.
Suresh Naika then lost and the body was found to burn a week later in a remote place in Alekki Village.
Vinay Kumar and other defendants were arrested by Inspector Koents K Nagesh.
The accusation sheet said that Anand Naika hatched the conspiracy to kill Suresh Naika because he did not want the last to marry the girl he loved.
The judge sentenced all six people to serve a prison sentence and asked them to pay a fine of RS 23,000 under various parts of the IPC.
The judge said Rs 1 Lakh had to be given to Mrs.
Suresh Naika Girija from a good amount.
He also directed the District Legal Service Authority to pay adequate compensation to Girija under the compensation scheme of Karnataka victims.
