Mangaluru: Pap Test decreases because women struggle to visit the hospital

More women are looking for cervical cancer screening after a pandemic due to increasing family demands and professional life they leave them with a little time for self-care or preventive examination.
The number of pap smears or tests has dropped by around 50 percent, say some doctors.
The procedure, which involves cell collection of the cervix, helps detect cancer earlier, which in turn, can increase results.
According to Dr.
Sythena H, a consultant and gynecologist at KMC in Mangaluru, Pap Smear is recommended for women over the age of 30.
“It helps detect papillomavirus infections that cause cervical cancer.
In terms of severe symptoms, such as pelvic inflammation, lower abdominal pain And repeated white discharge, someone must be tested earlier and utilizing the HPV vaccine, “he said.
Dr.
Sythena observes that women’s health has taken back seats because they constantly adapt to normal – long-distance work, children’s online classes and larger household loads.
“The stress level among women has increased and impacted their health.
The number of women who entered for a general health check fell 50 percent during the locking and situation was still the same,” he added.
Dr.
Suhasini Inamdar, a consultant of obstetrician and gynecologist at the Throwliness Hospital in Bengaluru, also said that the PAP test has declined 50 percent.
“We have seen women delay their annual examination, including mammography.
We have noticed a drastic decline in routine visits to hospitals.
There are delays in diagnosis not only cervical cancer but also endometrial cancer.
At the time given, making the right decision is a challenge, “He said.
Despite bleeding, a woman lived at home for almost seven months from Covid-19 fear.
He was then diagnosed with endometrial cancer and the only remaining choice was hysterectomy.
“Some women postpone hospital visits, afraid of Covid-19,” added Dr.
Suhasini.
