Mangaluru: WFH, restrictions on Interstate travel hurt KSRTC

Mangaluru: Even though people want to catch up with trips with family and friends, they are hesitant to use public transportation, especially buses, for long distance trips.
This is evident from the fact that the Division of the KSRTC Mangaluru has not returned to pre-covid days in terms of income.
AC bus request, especially on the route Mangaluru-Bengaluru which was first, had not taken.
At present, only around 40 Bus Ply buses on this route are on 65-70 buses per day in the pre-covid era.
Add to the job from home settings (WFH) and public transport units are in lethargic.
SN Aruna, Mangaluru Division Controller, KSRTC, said: “We are recovering, but progress has been slow.
On the route Bengaluru, with WFH continuing primarily for employees in the IT sector, the demand for the premium segment bus has not been taken.
Not yet reached the pre-covid level.
International travel restrictions are also sick because there is a reduction in the number of people traveling to Bengalaru from Mangaluru.
Also, fewer people from the business community who choose to travel by bus.
“The division used to get revenues around Rs 70 lakh per day now produces around Rs 50 -55 lakh / day.
However, the bus on the Mangaluru-Dharmasthala route runs close to full capacity, he said.
Aruna said revenue was also hit by restrictions on travel between countries, especially to Kerala.
Some 38 buses are used to abolish the Mangaluru-Kasilagod route every day.
There are also two services per day to Ernakulam and two more to Mysuru through Kanhangad.
Likewise, the bus used to operate to the Kerala border through BC Road-vittal, but it has also stopped.
After the level of progress is reduced in neighboring countries, district administration can provide permission for the bus to operate between Mangaluru and Kerala, Aruna said.
He also said school reopened, business is expected to increase.
