Navi Mumbai: Next summer, Alphonso Mangga from Konkan Belt will be transported to Navi Mumbai by train.
Mango will be transported to the APMC market in Vashi by Konkan Railways.
Stakeholder meetings including farmers, aggregators and traders were held on Friday, which was decided to run Alphonso Mango Express to Navi Mumbai.
The possibility of running a train to Delhi, Bengaluru, and other cities are being explored.
Konkan produces more than 3.5 lakh MT from Mango Alphonso.
“More than 1.25 lakh farmers collectively foster Alphonso Mango at more than 1.86 lakh hectares of land in Konkan.
About 186 lakh trees collectively produce more than 3.5 lakh mt alphonso mango.
Saran varieties, payday, ratna, and Sindhu was also cultivated in these gardens, “said Dr.
Bharat Salvi, Dean of College of Horticulture from Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeth (DBSKKV), Dapoli.
“Manufacturers and mango traders are fully dependent on expensive road transportation.
Special Mango Train will be useful for all.
The train must also transport jackfruit, coconut, cereal, rice and vegetables to big cities,” added Dr.
Salvi.
“The stakeholder meeting was held on Friday at Ratnagiri to start the mango special train from Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri Regency to APMC, Vashi, starting April 2022 and so on,” LK Verma said, KRCL.
Trains tend to start from the cessy station, Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri.
