New Delhi: Table Tennis Star Manika Batra has alleged that Soumyadeep Roy’s national coach asked him to throw the match during the Olympic qualification in March and that was the main reason he refused his help in the Tokyo Games single competition.
Responding to the Indian Tennis Table Tennis Federation Cause notice, Manika strongly denied that he brought the destruction of the game by rejecting Roy’s help.
According to TTFI sources, the world number 56 stated that he would not be able to focus on his match if someone asked him to enjoy months fixing the previous match.
“In addition to the need to avoid interference because of its last minute intervention, there are additional reasons and much more serious behind my preference to play without national coaches,” The Khel Ratna Awardee accused his response to the Secretary of TTFI Arun Banerjee.
“The national coach has emphasized me during the qualifying tournament in Doha in March 2021 to recognize my match to his students to allow him to qualify for the Olympics – in short – to pamper themselves in fixing the match,” he said.
Despite recurring efforts, Roy is not available to respond to these accusations.
The player’s coach has also not been asked to join the ongoing national camp and has been told by TTFI to present the side of the story.
“The accusation was against Roy.
Let him respond and then we will decide on future actions,” Banerjee said when asked about the Manika response to the notice of the show.
Roy is a former Commonwealth gold medalist at the team’s program and also an Arjuna Awardee.
Both Manika and Sutirtha Mukherjee, who practiced at the Roy Academy, ended in qualifications for the Tokyo Olympics.
Manika qualified in a higher world ranking after losing to Sutirtha, which secured the Olympic quota from the event held in Doha.
“I have proof of this incident and I am ready to present it to competent authority at the right time.
For asking me to admit the match, the national coach personally met me in my hotel room and talked to me for almost 20 minutes.” Manika said.
“He tried to promote his own students using unethical facilities under the pretext of national interests.
He was accompanied by his students who trained in the private academy not only carried out by, but also named it.” From my side, I didn’t promise.
To oblige it and immediately report this problem to TTFI officials.
I decided not to obey unethical orders from the national coach.
But the intimidation and pressure affected my mental framework and consequently my performance.
“As long as the Olympics, I want to stay away from the effects of coach demoralization like that.
Because, as a player representing India, it is my job to serve my country in the best way.” Manika made history by reaching the third round while Sutirtha also did well to reach the second half.
TTFI has called Manika’s refusal to take Roy’s advice as an indiscipline act and show it.
“I really deny the charge in it so that I brought the destruction to TTFI, the Government of India and the country and damaged the appointment of a national coach by playing a single match at the Tokyo Olympics without the presence of a national coach in the game sector.” Instead and vice versa, I have served my country.
And TTFI the best way by playing my match alone, “he wrote.
Manika also questioned TTFI for not taking action against Roy.” Bringing it wrong ‘was broken to the country by looking at the empty seat of the coach’.
But the truth is that ’empty seats’ are the result of the pressure tactics of the national coach to improve matches and ttfi’s taste to act on my quick report about the incident and not the result of my ‘disagineness’ called.
“Unfortunately, when I raised the problem of fixing the pressure tactics by the national coach again in my email on 14 to August 2021, TTFI denied this problem directly without the initial question, impartial and transparent.” Reset back and summar, I did not make a mistake in playing my match alone, “he said.
