Tokyo: Indian Table Tennis Star Manika Batra on Saturday refused to give advice to Soumyadeep Roy’s national coach during his first round match at the Tokyo Olympics after his personal coach was not given access in the field.
World Number 62 Manika won the match against tin lead to 94th from England 4-0 but no one was sitting in the corner of the coach and that attracted a lot of attention to social media.
Manika’s personal coach Sanmay Paranjape was controversially cleaned to travel with him to Tokyo but not allowed to live in the village of Games with the national team.
He lives in a hotel and allowed access only for training sessions.
The 26-year-old child wants improved Paranaajpe accreditation so he can be a court side during the match but the leader of the MP Singh team, who is also a TTFFI advisor and is in Tokyo, said the request of Manika for the field of playing access to his coach rejected by the committee.
“After his request for trial access to his personal coach was rejected, he refused to be trained by our national coach.
I have to intervene in this problem but he also rejects me to take Roy’s advice during the match,” said Singh Pti.
However, Roy was seen on the court side when Shatuh Kamal and Manika played a round of 16 matches in a mixed double.
Roy is a member of the gold winning men in the 2006 Commonwealth Games and has become an old teammate to the Indian table tennis Great Sharath.
Manika is not available for comments.
With games that occur in Covid-Times, there are more restrictions on the number of support staff allowed with teams from usual.
Paranjape, based in Pune, was cleaned to travel to Tokyo but coach G Sathiyan, Raman, who was an Olympics, no.
