Imphal: Manipur reporter Kishorchandra Wangkhem, was detained under the National Security Law for his Facebook post that cow dung and cattle urine could not cure Covid, released from the IMFal prison on Friday night by the Government of Manipur.
Kishorchandra was released four days after Political Activist Erendro Leichombam was released by the Manipur government on the command of the Supreme Court.
Kishorchandra and Erendro were arrested from Imphal West on May 13 to post similar Facebook, and detained under the NSA on May 17.
The court ordered the release of Kishorchandra at 5 pm on Friday for a personal release amounting to RS 1,000 if the detention was not far away.
Required in connection with other cases.
The order followed the ‘letter petition’ submitted by Kishorchandra’s wife who said the two men were arrested and detained for the same reason, and because Erendro had been released, Kishorchandra must also be released.
“When they stand identically located, continuous detention of the Petitioner’s husband will be a violation of Article 21 of the Constitution, just as in the case of Erendro,” HC said.
