Imphal: In a new twist ahead of the Manipur Assembly poll, the opposition congress, left and “likes”, Thursday announced the pre-polling alliance with the main purpose of defeating BJP.
In addition to Congress, other Alliance members include CPI, CPM, Forward Bloc, RSP and JD (s).
Because Congress has released a list of first 40 candidates for polls February 3 and March 3, the party will have a friendship battle with CPI candidates at Kakching Seat.
So far, the CPI has announced to compete in only two chairs – Kakching at Kakching District and Khurai in East Imphal.
At the impromptu press conference held at Manipur PCC Head Office in Imphal at night, Congress Three Times CM Okram Ibobi Singh said the party would not set his candidate in the Khurai chair and alliance partners would support the CPI candidate RK Amusana.
“Today is a pleasant day for all of us because we are self-minded political minded together joining hands to form an alliance.
This is not a new trend.
For three consecutive terms, we have a party regime led by Congress in the state since 2002 , “said Ibobi Singh.
