Mantra driver in TN: Traffic rules are there to be broken

Chennai: Unusual that eight categories of road users – Sans driver seat belts or helmets, they are excessive or use cellphones while driving, jumping traffic signals, vehicles overloaded, passengers in vehicles and drivers drivers – top graphs of violation of road rules.
But traffic planners and traffic managers were confused by the fact that the incidence of this violation remained high even during locking, when fewer vehicles plying on the road.
In Pre-Covid 2019, 1.08 Crore riders were ordered to do eight different traffic violations, which have been categorized as a great violation by the Supreme Court panel with road safety.
But in 2020, this figure rose to 1.72 crore, a surge in 59% vis-a-vis years earlier.
This situation only deteriorated in 2021 because one crore had been ordered across the country in the first six months for this violation.
While Chennai police ordered 15.9 cases of lakh in 2020, they had ordered more than 6.7 lakh cases so far in 2021.
This surge shows that the community continues to take rules of traffic lightly and that there is a more stringent enforcement on the road , Advocate vs.
Suresh Kumar said there was a need to educate people about the consequences of this violation and a decent punishment.
Except for the drive-drive case, the number of penalties is still less than 1,000 for most traffic violations.
In particular, Tamil Nadu is one of several countries that have not applied amendments to motor vehicle laws, which allow enforcement agencies to collect severe punishment and take serious actions against violations.
New actions propose a fine? 5,000? 25,000 or three years in prison for the violation.
However, Suresh agreed that enforcement had improved in the city compared to the suburbs.
“People are careful to wear masks, but throw all the road safety rules into the wind,” he regretted.
The additional police commissioner, traffic, Pradip Kumar said that his team had attracted all strings to enforce the road rules under the action of motorized vehicles during locking, resulting in more punishment.
Other senior officials said the enforcement of more stringent rules played an important role in reducing the number of overall road accidents in the state, he said.
Official data strengthens this, because the number of fatal accidents in the state is dipped from 10,500 in 2019 to 8,000 years the following year – a 24% decrease.
State road safety cells associate a decrease in fatal accidents to lower enforcement and modernization of equipment.
“In addition to installing more CCTV cameras, new technologies such as Bodyworn cameras and interseptors are purchased for nabers,” said members of the main agent.
Transportation activists, however, accuse that most equipment is not used effectively the restrictions of one or two leading traffic points in cities such as Nandanam and Guindy.
