Dhanbad: Three coal mines left to collapse during illegal mining in the Jharkhand District Dhanbad, officials said on Tuesday.
Many people are afraid of being trapped.
The first incident occurred at the capacara outsourcing project from Eastern Coalfield Limited (ECL) in the NIRSA police station area around 5 pm on Monday, they said.
The second incident occurred in Chach Victoriya from Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) in NIRSA on Monday night, while the third incident occurred on Tuesday morning in Gopinathpur opening the Cast ECL mines in the Panchet Police Station area, they said.
Rescue operations with heavy machines are taking place in three mines, officials said.
The incident occurred during illegal mining and only a coal company that could determine the number of people trapped inside, said the police supervisor (Dhanbad-Rural) Reeshma Ramessan.
“I can’t say the number of victims and hurt.
We verify the details and will say after getting a report.
Our team has rushed there,” he said.
The scare of police actions, the family of illegal miners has not reported to the authorities if there are people who are lost, officials said.
The villagers also managed to save some of them who could get out of debris, before the camp officials or police reached the place, they said.
An ecl official said the incident occurred in the mine left behind and fell in the scope of the district administration.
“In our work mines, there is no such information (collapsing).
That might be due to illegal activities in the mines left but not in our work mines,” he said.
“We are not in a position to tell about the number of villagers who are trapped,” he added.
Three people were worried about trapped and five people were injured at the Gopinathpur mine from ECL, the official source said.

BCCL, however, said that it would share the details later.
In the Chach Victoriya area of BCCL, three people were feared to be trapped in the rubble after the roof collapsed during illegal mining, the official source said.
