Kolkata: From the signature of Mahatma Gandhi and Adolf Hitler, Diego Maradona boots for the signature of Meghnad Saha on the check, the signature exhibition in the city displays an interesting trace left by the hands of famous history and celebrities.
The Indian collector’s automatic club (East Zone) organizes this rare and historical tutograph exhibition on paper and different memorabilia in Rotary Sadan which ends on Sunday.
The exhibition featured more than 200 signatures collected by filographers, some of which began to collect since they were in school.
While some signatures raise nostalgia there are others who can surprise.
The oldest signature in the exhibition is Adolf Hitler, a native and unreadable corrir expert, that G D Agarwal, who is the club president, get from a signature book.
There was also a letter signed by Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Subhas Chandra Bose, written for Agarwal’s father, who was associated with the Indian train in pre-independent India.
“Every time they travel by train, they will write to my grandfather about their experience.
I have more than 100 letters like that,” Agarwal said.
This exhibition also has Satyajit Ray’s handwriting, Painter MF Husain and Kishore Kumar.
“Someone collects signatures in three ways.
Some take personal signatures, some exchanges with other collectors and some make it a gift,” said Santosh Kumar Lahoti, the founder of the club, who was gifted by Gandhi’s signature by his neighbors.
