Pune: The famous Marathi author and Social Activist Dr.
Anil Awachat died of a prolonged illness at his residence here on Thursday morning, said his family members.
He is 78 years old.
Dr.
Awachat was hospitalized a few days ago because of a health problem, and he was taken home from the hospital about four days ago, family members said.
Born in Otur in Pune District, Awachat has completed MBBS’s education from BR J Medical College here.
Known for several books, including “Manasa”, “Swatahavishayi”, “Gard”, “caruals”, “Karyamagna” and “Kutuhalapoti”, Awachat regularly wrote articles in various Marathi magazines and other publications.
He has a task with journalism and is known for the kind of writing of his report.
He is associated with several social causes.
Dr.
Awachat, together with his late wife, has established an addiction center called the muktangan rehabilitation center in the city in 1986.
Then it is known as one of the best institutions in the field of drugs and alcoholism.
Apart from writing, he was excited about origami, wood carvings, playing flutes, cooking, painting, and photography.
Governor Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari said sadness over the death of Dr.
Awachat.

Dr.
Awachat is a famous writer and journalist who devotes his life to the cause of social transformation through’ muktangan ‘,” the Governor said in a tweet.
“Dr.
Awachat saved a lot of valuable life and their families by showing them Jalan Satan the deceased Dr.
Awachat,” he added.
Senior BJP leader and former Chief of Maharashtra Minister Devendra Fadniv also paid tribute, saying that Dr.
Awachat was a famous writer, who was also known for his contribution in the de-addiction field.
