Margao: Bio-methanized factory, with the capacity to treat five TPD (tons per day) waste, was inaugurated by opposition leader drawn for Kamat and Fatorda Mla Vijai Sardesai on Wednesday.
Plants, have an automatic garbage breaker mechanism, will treat 5,000 kg of food waste, fish and vegetables produced in the SGPDA market.
The Crore RS 2.4 factory has been established as a pilot project.
Depending on the performance, the Municipal Council Margao (MMC) plans to add two such plants in the SGPDA market.
Plans also on the foundation to establish two 25 TPD factories in Sonsoddo.
Speaking on that occasion, Sardesai urged MMC board members to work to establish two factories before the assembly selection of 2022.
“If you can’t, you’re wrong for the job and have to sit at home,” he told board members, most of which owed the loyalty to him and KAmat.
Pune-based Urja Agency, which has pocketed a contract, will operate and maintain a factory for five years, said MMC’s head, said Agnelo Fernandes.
“From this plant we will make 400cum biogas which will produce 450 units of power every day.
The power produced will be used for factory operations and for street lights on the SGPDA market.
The factory will also produce organic fungi 700 to 1,000 kg per day to be used for Maintenance of city parks and lawn, “he said.
Bio-methanation is a process where organic material is converted microbiologically in anaerobic conditions to biogas.
