: Marginal increase in cases amid fears of Delta variant

Lucknow: After registering less than 200 Covid-19 cases on Saturday, the state again recorded a leap with 222 new cases in the last 24 hours.
A surge, although marginal, came amid fears of Delta variant from viruses that spread in several parts of the country.
UP has recorded 173 cases on Saturday.
According to health bulletins, the number of new Covid-19 cases rose from 11 on Saturday to 23 on Sunday in Lucknow, from 5 to 15 in Varanasi, 4 to 11 in Prayagraj, four to 17 in Kanpur, and three to nine in Meerut.
The number of deaths rose slightly from 40 on Saturday to 45 in the last 24 hours.
The number of people who recovered from infection also witnessed a steep fall – from Saturday 328 to 169 on Sunday.
However, Gautam Budh Nagar recorded a decrease in new cases of 14 to only 2 in the last 24 hours while a total of 22 districts, including Rae Bareli, Mainpuri, Azamgarh, Hardoi, Want, Unnao and Maharajanj, did not record new cases.
Secretary of the Additional Chief (Information) Navneet Shgal said the state government was still on guard on the people who came from America where the Delta variant was being reported.
“Vigil is maintained with the help of health workers and Nigrani Samitis (in the case of the village).
People must exercise by using facemask and avoid crowded places, even after vaccinated.
The state government has not reduced testing.
At least 2,77,890 samples were tested on Sundays Which rose from 2,66,957 tests a day ago, “said Sehgal.
He added that the state government committed to getting 10 crore people vaccinated at the end of August which would substantially reduce the third wave impact.
The state government has successfully invested more than 3 crores by doing special drives to vaccinate different people’s categories.
Meanwhile, the state government has kicked the distribution of a special drug distribution kit with syrup and chewing tablets for children under the campaign ‘Corona Ki Jung Mean Jeevan Anmol’ considering the third possible wave.
The state government said it had prepared more than 50 lakh pamphlets where the medical kit for children would be distributed by the supervision committee in all 75 countries.
Kits include syrup and low-dose chewing tablets than adults.
There are four types of kits – for children under one year, 1-5 years, 5-12 years and they are between 12 and 18 years – which will be given even in remote areas in the state.
