Bhubaneswar: As the Covid-19 pandemic triggered stress and psychological disease among many, suicide cases recorded a marginal increase in Bhubaneswar in the first half of 2021 compared to the same period last year.
While at all, 142 people died of suicide in the capital between January and June 2020, 151 people ended their lives here for the same period this year.
151 died including 38 people, who killed suicide during locking in May (16 suicide) and June (22 suicide) this year.
Suicide characters from Kuncian in May and June 2020 were established in 49 (18 in May and 31 in June).
Police said the overall suicide case rose in Bhubaneswar in 2020 compared to 2019.
While 220 people died by suicide in 2019, the figure rose to 310 in 2020.
Although the suicide case has not increased during the first wave compared to the first wave , namely the impact of the pandemic on the mind of people has not subsided.
“In most cases, the deceased suffered deep pressure and ended their lives, said a senior police officer.
Most of the victims were in their 30s and 40s.
They were not highly educated.
Some of them had to end their lives because of losing their jobs and financial conditions What is bad.
They consume poisons or hang themselves to death, “the officer said.
Psychologists have been flooded with patients suffering from covid-induced depression.
“We found that the locking and post-locking situation influenced more middle class people than other classes.
Closure of shops, malls and restaurants caused unemployment of many young men.
Students have been stressed because their future is uncertain and career after the closing of the school and the center coaching, “said Sn Mishra, a retired professor of psychology.
Some experts say many people suffer from mental imbalances after negativity spread through various sources of communication, media and social media.
“Parents and other family members have a greater role to play to make young people and children happy.
We have also advised people who are depressed,” Mishra said.
