Thiruvananthapuram: ‘Kodathi Lizard’ (Marine Court), an old tradition of coastal people to conduct trial in their village to resolve the internal problems of the village and be led by “Ooru Moppan” (village head), arranged to be staged in the city.
The Marine Court will be held in front of the Secretariat on Tuesday to increase the problems faced by the people in the coastal area.
Activities such as street drama, road paintings, sea songs, folk songs, poems and documentary playback will also be part of the strike.
The strike is being organized by “Theerabhoo Samrakshana Vedi”.
Coastal people will decide their own justice because the government failed to give it to them, according to the committee.
More than 150 residents of the coastal area will hold an attack in front of the Secretariat on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The strike will begin at 11:00 a.m.
and continue until 11:00 the following morning.
Coastal people have submitted several demands.
Because of sustainable natural disasters, including cyclones and tidal surges, thousands of people throughout the coastal region live as refugees at their relatives’ homes.
They must be rehabilitated immediately.
Until then, the government had to pay them rented houses.
Resettlement plans announced in the name of rehabilitation for coastal people are fraud, they accuse.
They said that fishing communities were expelled from the coast and these areas handed over to the Mafia corporation and tourism, the committee accused.
As forest rights are guaranteed to Tribeseople, coastal regional rights must be given to the coastal people, they said.
The government must be ready to change policies that make coastal people live like refugees.
MPs, MLA, union leaders, writers, art, culture and human rights activists will take part in the strike.
The opposition leader VD Sathean will inaugurate the event on Tuesday at 11 am.
