Imphal: K onkholer, Ace Boxer’s husband Mary Kom, has thrown his hat into the election ring and said he would oppose the assembly selection of 2022 from the Saikot Assembly Constitution (ST) in the Churachandpur district in Manipur.
In particular, Mary Kom is now a member nominated to the upstream house of parliament.
Onkholer said his decision to join Fray’s election was taken after consulting with his wife.
Speaking with the media, Onkholer said he observed BJP tickets and would fight as independent in case he did not get it.
At present, silikot is represented by Haokip TN from Congress.
In the latest assembly elections in 2017, TN Haokip defeated Paokhold BJP Hokip with more than 5,000 votes.
Onkholer announced his political decision during a public meeting held in Samulamlan District District on Saturday and was attended by several village heads, social workers, church leaders, women and youth leaders from elections.
“I decided to step into politics to work for my backward constituency,” Onkholer said at the meeting.
Manipur is scheduled to go poll in the first half of 2022.
Onkholer and Mary Kom have been married for 16 years and he has paid a rich tribute to her husband on several occasions.
“Because of his constant encouragement and support, I can achieve it and be myself today.
There is no doubt that it is a difficult road, managing sports and family, but he made everything simple for me,” he said.
