Panaji: In the past few years in his life, Vamona Anant Sinai Navelcar must live with poor hearing and can hardly speak.
But a few months until his death, at the age of 91, Navelcar did not give up drawing.
On Monday, Navelcar exhaled the last breath due to heart disease, after spending time for living support at a private hospital in Dona Paula.
The last rite was done around 12 noon on the same day.
A few years before his health began to deteriorate, Navelcar wrote in his notebook, “physical strength because age can be a kind of particular obstacle, but the mind overcomes all the negative impacts on one’s emotions.
The demands of the mind and creators fulfill their emotions and creativity”.
His artworks are part of a private and public collection in almost every big city in the world, but Navelcar feels he is in his best creative in his dimly lit room at his family’s ancestral house in Pomburpa.
With a picture of the liquid line, NavelCar captures the imagination of the art of the art of Asia to Europe to Africa since the early 1960s.
“He spent most of his life in Portugal and Mozambique, and when he returned to Goa, the artist community was not big today.
And he felt not accepted, even though he was very loved by everyone,” said the artist Yolanda de Souza.
This is probably about this anxiety, Navelcar wrote, “Lobby! I don’t have this type of bulldozer to push me forward in art.
I need to line up in my own initiative”.
It was de Souza which offered Navelcar his first solo event in Goa.
“He has his first solo show in the early 2000s in Goa in my gallery, and I put up his work on our website, and his students from Portugal and Mozambique contacted me and bought his works.
His students love him very much.
A woman Come to Goa from Portugal and buy his works.
He doesn’t have to do much, his work makes him very loved, “he said.
Christ is a recurring theme in his painting, which makes Navelcar the only Indian artist who paint a diverse interpretation of the last banquet.
Although there is world recognition, the younger generation in Goa woke up with her artistic genius for the past four to five years.
“He has become a superstar in Europe.
He influenced the entire generation on three continents.
But it was a shame that the younger generation in Goa did not know anything about him, until he was brought to the mainstream here through the festival we arranged in his honor in 2017, “Said Marius Fernandes, who became aware during his duties abroad.
has been obtained in the art world internationally.
“He was very shy and gentle, and when we arranged the festival to respect him, the people challenged us that he would not appear.
But my son and daughter spoke to Him and he agreed.
He is a teacher for the core who loves young people, “Fernandes said when young children Ashley Fernandes and Ronak Kamate recorded Navel for a documentary and asked him what to call, Navelcar decided to judge the film, ‘I’m not’.
“He is an artist who is loved by many people but is understood by a little.
He was globally recognized for his work, but also denied formal recognition on time by the state, the most important for him.
He will live through his work for years to come,” said Ashley.
