LONDON: Hashim Amla with difficulty composing an invincible 37 of 278 balls in the defensive MasterClass to thwart Hampshire’s victory offer and secure a draw for Surrey in a district championship match in Southampton.
Continuing at six crucensed for two after being made to be followed, Surrey finished 128-8 on Wednesday with Amla South Africa hitting all day.
Amla only scored three runs from the first 100 balls faced and recorded the first of five limits at 126.
“Every dough that goes there has a plan and (we) try the best to block it,” Amla said, who played 124 tests and 181 One day before quitting from international cricket in 2019.
“The last thing you want to do is play some bad shots and the game ends at lunch.” Despite having a defeat, Surrey will almost certainly fail to make a division as one of the top six teams.
The only time Amla who looked in danger was when Ian Holland dropped it with a leg off Keith Barker when the Batsman was at 30.
Amla was not a stranger to display batting.
He is famous for making 25 of 244 balls in the 2015 test in New Delhi where he and the South African team Mate Ab de Villiers, which made 43 balls, fight in vain to avoid defeat to India.
