Mint As has begun launching a quarter that featured the final writer of America and Maya Angelou activist, the first black woman to appear in the coin.

“Every time we re-design our currency, we have the opportunity to say something about our country – what we value, and how we develop as a community,” said US Finance Secretary Janet Yellen.
“I am very proud that these coins celebrate the contribution of some of the most extraordinary women in America, including Maya Angelou.” Recipients of more than 30 honorary titles, Angelou read “at morning credit” at the 1992 inauguration of former President Bill Clinton.
Angelou reading marked the first time an African-American woman wrote and presented poetry at the inauguration of the president.
In 2010, Barack Obama was awarded Angelou Medal of President Freedom, and he was the recipient of the 2013 literine award, the National Book of Honorary Award for the contribution to the literary community.
The American Women’s Quarter Program also features: Sally Ride, the first American woman in space and Wilma Mankiller, the main head of the first women of Cherokee, among others.

Yellen also signifies support to recognize the former slave and abolitionist Harriet Tubman in US currency.
